People don't usually think it through when they talk about "nothing." It's not just the absence of matter or energy. Because then you've still got an empty space which has certain properties and laws about how it operates, what it IS. True nothingness wouldn't even have these laws, there wouldn't even a space for matter to exist in.

But that's not far enough either. We do away with the empty space, but we still just talked about the idea of there being a difference between a space in which something can exist and a nothingness in which things can't exist. We're still talking in terms of some kinds of laws and properties being defined. We've got to do away with that too if we want to truly have nothing. We have to do away with any laws which define a distinction between existence and non-existence, the concept of laws itself.

And so I feel like once you really strip everything away, you end up in this state where it's just kind of this chaotic ambiguous amalgamation of all the ways reality could possibly be defined. Just a frothing mass of possibilities. And we're all just inside one little bubble in that sea of foam, drifting along in this brief moment before it pops.

So to answer your question of "Why is there something instead of nothing?" My answer is that because if you try to strip things back down to nothingness, you instead break through the veil and discover that the natural state is that everything exists.

Nothing then becomes a relative variable, as dimensional chambers become separated by degrees of absence of all known parameters relating to the chambers. So in the true void, only other barrier of dimensional containment exists. Reality became adept at creating voidal relativities such a long time ago that no two dimensions interact but for when the creator defines a merge of realities.
