Ya, go for it. I like mine extra dry, so I buy the Walmart Great value brand, open it up take out the moisture packet, and let it set on the dash of my truck for at least 4 hours before it's ready for my preference. Makes it super tough, and lasts a lot longer.

Jerky is good. I would recommend trying more than just beef.

Nah, totally unrelated to that. It actually takes a relatively large amount of beef to get a small amount of jerky. The dehydration process shrinks it down, so what's now a bite-sized bit was actually once a pretty decent portion of meat, and you're paying for its original size.
