alright anons lets see who's smarter than a 4th grader
Alright anons lets see who's smarter than a 4th grader
idk man sorry
its 5th grader and you aren't one.

Eat my shit, you fucking faggot.
いち
I'm sure order of operations is taught differently in different places for some reason
brackets first, 2+2=4, now reads 8/2*4
no exponents
division next, 8/2=4, now reads 4*4
multiplication next, 4*4=16
no addition
no subtraction
16 likely
The way my school taught was division and multiplication was interchangeable left to right as the same step. Same for addition and subtraction.
bemdsa
I prefer bedmas but I dont think it actually matters functionally
how the fuck is anyone getting 1 as an answer. show your work
>brackets first, 2+2=4, now reads 8/2*4
Incorrect.
2(x+y) = (2x+2y)
so 2(2+2) = (2*2+2*2) = (4+4) = 8
therefore 8÷2(2+2) = 8÷8 = 1
it's 16 faggots
For us it was PEMDAS (parenthesis instead of brackets). On another note, it does matter if you do not pair up the MD and the AS. For example if you do
as follows instead
brackets first, 2+2=4, now reads 8/2*4
no exponents
multiplication next, 2*4=8, now reads 8/8
division next, 8/8=1
However, with MD and AS being interchangeable left to right the way is correct, however... writing it as
division next
multiplication next
no addition
no subtraction
is wrong because this implies you always do division before multiplication and addition before subtraction, which is incorrect. More accurate is...
division before multiplication in this case because it is first left to right
multiplication next after division in the left to right
no further division or multiplicat
no addition and/or subtractions
See the work in this post, but it's wrong.
This isn't algebra, moron. You have the numbers and you do everything in the brackets first.
it's not 2(x+y) tho
it's 8/2(x+y)
8/2x+ 8/2y = 4*2+4*2
this implies you always do division before multiplication and addition before subtraction
I do this and got the correct answer, but thanks on the grouping hierarchy qrd. Now I'll never get tripped up on these silly questions.
doing multiplication before brackets
lol lol lol lol lmao lol lmfao loma olam almof mflao
the answer is beetroot.
The guy you're responding to is a moron and so are you.
Not sure where x+y came from, we know what the fucking variables are. If we keep pretending its an unknown value though we would just have x.
it would be 8/2(x) and now we solve for x.
8/2x = 0
x = 2/8
The answer is 0.25
No it isn't. The order of operations is the same, people weren't listening in class.
PEMDAS/PEDMAS might be needlessly confusing. It should be taught as "Or."
Parentheses then Exponents, then Multiplication OR division (when read from left to right), then Addition OR subtraction (when read from left to right.)
This is always how it has been.
Are you the same person just baiting?
8/2x = 0????
16=0????
What the fuck are you talking about.
It's 8÷2(2+2) = x
If you do this wrong, you'll get the right answer, but the CORRECT procedure would be to ADD the 2+2 before addressing anything else.
From that point, 8÷2 is next, since it is closest to the left, the remaining 4 would be multiplied by 4 to give you 16.
You can't fuck that up.
Thanks but someone else explained it here
also "I'm sure... ...for some reason" was obviously sarcastic but oh well
