Japan life

I've lived in small town Japan for almost 7 years, ama

ps I had to wait 16 mins or some shit to make this post wtf happened to this site verify email address? is this some Anon Babble gold account shit?

You are nothing but an english teacher clown.
When it comes time for help with a problem, watch how japanese wont help you while giving you the "But that's our culture...." line
You are nothing to the people who you know over there, nobody cares about you.

I run a guesthouse with my wife

I came to Japan initially as a "Assistant Language Teacher", but I got married and switched to running a business with her,

ps being self-employed is both stressful but extremely liberating at the same time

Town? Or whatever degree of locality as you're comfortable sharing.

I was in a small town in Akita, but I moved to eastern hokkaido to live with my wife after wrapping up my ALT career

education-wise it is almost the polar opposite since Akita prefecture spends a ton of money on education and hokkaido is the texas of Japan

DEATH TO TRASNGENDERISM

ive always wanted to visit since i was a kid. i know i probably have this idealized view of Japan based on media/anime and not reality.

I grew up poor, in a rough place, surrounded by shitty people and drugs. Became an addict for a few years.

The idea of going somewhere like Japan where most those problems dont exist at such scale always was an escape fantasy of mine. Move to some ghibli-esque little town with cute ramen bars and old architecture and decent train service and neighbors that were polite and not trashy.

i feel like there's a simplicity to Japan that hasn't existed here in the west since i was basically a toddler. Sure in Tokyo you have all the Hussle and Bussle but once you leave there's this vibe of disconnectedness i feel exists that i crave. Maybe it's an idealization in my brain. but idk. I have two kids now and truthfully if i could pack them up and convince my husband to leave id prob move to Japan.

I used to be all rah rah America good but seeing the social and economic decline over the past decade through my eyes.. i just dont see this as a place i want my kids to grow old. It''s too cold. it's too distracted. There's too much crime, too much drugs, too much sex.

I haven't run into much in the way of transgenderism in Japan

at our guesthouse the rooms are differentiated based on gender, and I confirmed this with my wife. I asked her about how we should handle transgender people and her response was something along the lines of "bio men should be in the men's room since they could beat up or cause problems with women."

transgender people are almost non-existent in small-town Japan

im sure trans people exist in japan since theres examples of it in media.

but socially and culturally its 100% something that is pushed in the west. in the east if a kid told their teacher they feel like a dude they'd get laughed at. here they'd get sent to a therapist and put on life altering drugs and their parents wouldnt even have a say.

that shit is terrifying as a parent.

im probably older than u and reddit is a fagpage.

there is a significant foreigner population where I live, but they mostly keep to themselves. They work at some of the fish factories (canneries probably?), and are mainly from Vietnam or Indonesia. I haven't heard of any problems from them. If we have any foreigner problems here it's usually from Chinese tourists.

Small town Japan is definitely the answer, if you are able to assimilate and don't let the isolation get to you

big cities in Japan assimilate a lot of western (american) culture, but small towns are still super chill and respectful as long show effort and respect in learning the language and culture (and aren't black)

WHY ARE YOU SPACING YOUR SENTENCES LIKE THAT AND WHY ARE YOU SUING FULL STOPS BUT NOT CAPITALS OR PUNCTUATION

there is one pseudo-example I can recall
there was a kid at the middle school I used to teach at who bought some high heels at the flea market they had during the school festival. Some students told me about it and said how weird it was, but I just kinda said "to each their own" or something like that. I don't fully understand transgenderism, but I realize most of them are just trying to live their life in peace (fuck the vocal minority tho)

I've never posted on reddit so fuck if I know what reddit spacing is

ps I'm 31 so if I'm still underage fuck me

but small towns are still super chill and respectful

this is how it was here until like 10 years ago. I live in Appalachia. small towns used to be pretty much crime free and almost idyllic in a sense. they had cute little mainstreets and everyone knew everyone. and they were thriving. Now its just all meth, stealing car parts, shuttered businesses and a bunch of other depressing shit.

As a kid i grew up in the suburbs of a big city and we'd always drive out to small towns on the weekend to get away from the city since even the burbs were starting to get ghetto. then as an adult i bounced between little towns only to find that idyllic nature was gone and replaced mostly by depressing, dying old people and broken young people. the 2008 recession killed small town America imo.

cities and suburbs here are full fo ghetto trash with ghetto problems. little towns are full of despair and meth. there's no where else to go to actually get away from the obvious societal collapse going on here.

>respect in learning the language and culture (and aren't black)

im not black but my husband is and one of my kids is mixed race and i realize that would be a hurdle for acceptance in a lot of countries.

tbh tho id rather live in Asia and have my kid called the N word than live where i do and have them get trans'ed by a weird teacher, or stabbed by a crackhead, or end up cutting catalyitic converters off people's cars to pay for meth. i lived that shit. i dont want my kids too

bc i can and imaging giving this much of a fuck lol

How prevalent is the Ainu culture up there over the overall Japanese culture? Sorry if that sounds odd, I don't know how to phrase my thought.

I've never posted on reddit so fuck if I know what reddit spacing is

it's probably a tranny porn spammer. They get pissed when actual good threads get posted on Anon Babble so they spam them with bullshit until they die. Can't allow actual decent threads to thrive anymore.

it sucks to hear that about small town america, I spent a couple years in small town Kansas and I imagine it's become exactly as how you describe it. just another part of my childhood I'll never get back

ps I know I mentioned being black is kind of a hurdle, but if it's your kid then the other kids in school will probably think it's cool more than anything. Your husband will definitely have to deal with stares and glares, particularly from older Japaneses people, but kids usually don't give a fuck and are way less judgemental, especially if they can interact with your kid in person

there are some events to celebrate/acknowledge Ainu culture, but it's almost all but erased

there are very few (double digits?) Ainu speakers left alive, and many of those who have Ainu blood may not even know it, that way they can better assimilate into the dominant Japanese culture.

it's kind of sad to watch an entire culture and language die with a whimper, but I don't think there's any way to stop it now

there is a significant foreigner population

Russians by way of Sakhalin?

you know, that probably was the case in the past
in my town most big street signs and store signs are in Japanese, English, and Russian, due to the large volume of Russian fisherman that used to come to/stay over in the town, but reduced fish volume has meant that there are far fewer fisherman staying over. Most foreigners now are factory workers (Vietnamese or Indonesian)

you get zero pussy

Have you climbed mt haguro? Japan has some really interesting geography that I'd love to see in person someday

I have not. The closest major mountain to where I lived as Mt. Chokai, but I never climbed it primarily since classic wow was released during my stay in Akita. sunken temple took priority over real life shenanigans

imagine being a guest in someone's home and having the audacity to invite others over. It's not your home retard.

And you gate keeping from black people despite being just as much a foreigner who doesn't belong there is ridiculous

Inviting others over? Most Japanese people have no problem as long as you respect their culture and traditions, although some older people will definitely have prejudices against foreigners (especially black people)

I ain't gatekeeping shit
you can come over if you want, I'm just warning you of potential resistance

has there ever been a single functioning multi cultural country? no. I am anti globo homo. I belong in africa, you belong in europe, japan for japanese. Arabs and jews to the pits of hell.

I graduated from Portland State University right before all the covid and BLM shit happened

地元の女性をデートしますか

What's it like seeing other White people around Japan? Do you ever stop and make small talk, just see where they're from, what brought them out that way?

just another day seeing who else os om japan

as long as they don't cause trouble I have no quarrel with them. no idea what the fuss is bout

that is not what reddit spacing is, sweatie

This is what Americans actually believe

What the fuck is Reddit spacing and why do you know.

900 mins wait

happens to me often, but I wont change my settings or let them force me into registering...

My own question:
Recently I wanted to buy my daughter a Kimono for Christmas, but the richness of Tanmono you can see on Wiki isn't available here in Europe. Like Yore, an uneven gauze crêpe from raw silk, or rinzu - all very sophisticated textiles that look very simple and elegant. Are they easy to get in rural Japan, or has everybody switched to wearing Polyester clothing as well?

Death to p3d0 creep transphobes. Wood chipper is easy mode. Get in the fucking jet turbine.

For someone interested in moving to Japan long term during my life, how would you suggest I go about this? I have a science background, and my wife has admin/banking.

I can't believe OP's wife doesn't put out for him... Or maybe you're just retarded

I only have to do it when i don't post for a number of days, I'd love to live in Japan for the car culture but I'm 6'2". Do you run into a lot of issues?

what military position is most highly regarded or talked about?

Reddit started in 2005 btw. Explain?

what books should i read before planning a trip, what book should i read before going?

what books should i read before planning a trip

I'm a big fan of William Gibson personally

sci-fi guy, k not sure how that helps with plannning a trip, but i will read the book covers.

It won't help at all I just like his books

bro asked for good books to read

got book recommendations

I think you forget how sarcastic and/or autistic people are here

What does this say.

Some of us are arguing over it

you do know this is the internet and both you and OP could just use a translator?

Something rude about your mom I'm guessing

posts japanese including kanji

ともだち

just google translate or use AI

The issue isnt that I cant use a translator. It's more an issue of translators giving different results and the fact that the slight differences is giving a discourse over something regarding a character so figured getting someone who might be fluent with the language might give a better reading.
