Modern Spongebob doesn't exist lol

over 12 seasons of spongebob

almost no episodes that recapture the humor from seasons 2-3 or sea aesthetic from season1

just immature grossout garbage or fast paced brainrot for toddlers

Why does spongebob look like this?

modern spongebob

Spongebob died with Hillenburg.

Mewing

It died with the first movie.

Tell me your favorite classic episode right now.

That episode where Squidward becomes a neet and drives Spongebob fucking livid

I don’t know my favorite classic episode, but my favorite post classic episode is the sundae episode
I reference that a lot

The house painting episode, nothing but a nonstop series of funny moments.

Plankton one is the best while Patrick one is the worst. Didn't watch any, just throwing a wild guess.

grow up

realize that I became Plankton

Only my computer wife can comfort me.

Peaked at Patrick SquarePants

I've heard Plankton is the best because his VA had some say in it? From what I've seen to reactions to it Patrick probably is the worst one but at least it had a short clip making fun of the Nostalgia Critic by making Bubble Bass him.

I always related to Mr. Krabs

Probably the karate one or the baby clam one.

Pickles

moooooom Anon Babble is leaking into Anon Babble again

It's low hanging fruit, but Band Geeks really is just perfect from beginning to end.
One short, snappy joke after another.

Why did SpongeBob became bigger than Rocko, Angry Beavers, and CatDog ever were? It even became bigger than Ren & Stimpy was at the height of it's popularity and Ren & Stimpy was huge around 1991-1993 (during the first two seasons).

gfru.jpg - 1024x691, 206.05K

he doesn't know that Sponge/v/ob is a Sonic character now

Have a drink to celebrate.

It was witty and entertaining for all ages while having a cast of characters that were all marketable in their own way. it also helps that it came just at the end of the 90s era of cartoons and just before the 2000s era where there'd be more misses than hits.

The setting won everyone over.

CatDog

I miss her, bros.

LolaCaricola.jpg - 355x500, 27.01K

FINALLY a good fucking thread

more clever and clean

rocko was slop for parents
angry beavers was bretty good, great theme song and Beaver Fever is awesome
catdog was too trashy

youtube.com/watch?v=tMfwjidKDPA

Rocko, Angry Beavers, and CatDog were all grossout shows and that shit died as soon the nineties ended.

the writers ruined what made Nosferatu and him so special by bringing them back in a half-assed nostalgia attempt

I don't see any sexless obese vitiligo amputee beanmouth lesbians in here, though

Pareja sexo

SpongeBob

I liked how it was slow paced and had relaxing music. It was also noticeably funnier than everything else

Rocko

I didn't really get this. Too much humor relying on references to working at an office. Or otherwise being in your 20's

CatDog

Grossed me out. Characters were always getting eaten. The main characters were also annoying

Angry Beavers

This show was pretty nice. Norbert would annoy me in the way that he talked. I liked Daggit(?), and later Zim

Well let's see...

Rocko

Angry Beavers

CatDog

Ren and Stimpy

Cow and Chicken

All of these:
- feel like degrees of their creators' progressing mental illness, not something aimed at children
- don't even have a proper cast or setting, just one or two protagonists getting into random wacky situations
- take place in a generic boring urban setting
- have muted colors with a lot of beige and brown, not very appealing to children all things considered

Spongebob:
- was explicitly made to have wide appeal and have comprehensible humorous plots instead of "Ren invents a time machine AND THEN HIS BUTT EATS HIM!!!!!!!!!!!"
- iconic memorable cast of characters (everyone knows Squidward and Mr Krabs, no one remembers the CatDog rabbit)
- a cool unique underwater setting (kids wished they could live in bikini bottom, no one wished they could live in O-Town or some shit)
- uses bright colors that complement both those things

The former were made to appeal to their creators. The latter was made to appeal to the wide audiences and actual children.

posts ren and stimpy as some kind of antithesis of 'immature grossout / fast-paced brainrot

It was a show parents enjoyed because it had a good mix of likeable characters and clever humor for all ages.
Think of the Pizza episode where Squidward calls Spongebob Jethro. No child in 1999 knew who Jethro Clampett was. It was for the parent.

I'll never forget getting out of the shower when I was in highscool, walking into the living room, and both of my parents were watching Spongebob. And enjoying it.
For comparison, my dad would always ask "Why are they angry" anytime Angry Beavers came on.

The one where squidward time travels

dudes like this absolutely graduated highschool with a flat 2.0

Cow and Chicken

This was the funniest shit ever when I was 10. They actually had good writers writing the jokes.

The panty raid episode because I actually raided a woman's dirty panties when I was 12. she lived with my family and I and all her panties had this particular smell and discharge on them

What happened?

Battle for Bikini Bottom is actually a great platformer. The original looks better than the remake too.

Bubble Bass as well

Was there a exact episode that made you drop Spongebob? For me, it was Atlantis Squarepantis

Another spongebob game leaked this year and david hasselhoff is coming back along with the original king neptune design.

what took you so long?

My pretty seahorse stands in my mind as when I started to lose interest.

Go b-ACK

Shortly after or maybe even before the first movie.

Karate Island probably

Might be okay. I'm just so bored by modern Spongebob.

Plankton is the best one because the VA wrote it and he's the only person there who actually gives a shit.
Sandy was horrible, especially if you like Sandy as a character because she acts out of character while being flanderized at the same time.
Sponge on the run was a movie made to shill Kamp Koral.
Kamp Koral is SpongeBob Babies. If you care about continuity you'll hate it more.
Patrick Star Show is lolsorandumbXD tier that feels like it was made for TikTok kids.

As a kid, I never found the show to be truly awful even going into season 7 and would watch it just because it was on.
That being said, I do specifically remember not watching SpongeBob's Last Stand, not because I didn't want to, I just wasn't able to, and I only remember that specifically because it was around that time I discovered that, just by chance, I had seen every single episode up to that point.
I never cared enough to catch a rerun and some time after I kinda stopped watching tv altogether.
Dodged a bullet since it was a big environmental episode.

Because you were a toddler when you watched it

You just posted it

panty raid episode so they dont run the episode anymore

original? based. movie neptune is shit

Not a specific episode, but I remember thinking that at the time season 4 came out that the show was getting worse and I hated the new art style a lot. I think either the episode where spongebob was afraid of krabby patties or patrick crossdressing is what put me off of anything made after 2004.

missing Revenge of the Flying Dutchman

Cosmic Shake

Look I know Cosmic shake was a good modern platformer to follow the BFBB remake, and RotFD was kinda janky since it was one of the early releases, but it's got so much charm! It's got this weird dreamlike ethereal feel to it.

Karate Island was voted the best SpongeBob episode on the Best Day Ever Marathon. As a matter of fact, all but one of the top 10 "best episodes" were season 4 episodes.

I guess it was either dumb kids who didn't know any better or Nick purposely rigged the results to promote the newer episodes.

This is the stupidest fucking trend for shows that are past their prime, Simpsons and Family Guy do it too, just scrape the bottom of the content barrel.

You HAD to kill him

SpongeBob’s dream

Heifer deleted all his games.

It was smartly written and the world building was done by a guy who actually knew stuff about the ocean.

When his voice got higher pitched

Well the bigger issue is when you lose the actual creatives behind the thing.
There's only so many layers of people who don't especially care about working on a thing you can go through before you need soulless reference material scraping.
Not at all helped with the issue that basically the entire animation industry are all assholes that actively hate who they're making cartoons for and the entire amateur animator scene has been dead because of the Google Holocaust.

The episode with Manray.

Long way down!

I used to want to be an animator growing up but never had the discipline to build my skills, and as I watch all my favorite animators disappear and the industry just turn to complete shit I have to wonder what the point of it even is anymore.

As a kid i always wanted to eat the food in the table from club spongebob

Well the point is to make animations that inspire feelings in people.
But the actual means of getting them to people or even making a career out of it are not really there these days.
Which kind of sucks.

whaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Art is so fucked, it's completely depressing to see how creatives like Andy Merril and Maxwell Atoms get fucked and forced to work minimum wage. C Martin Croker died in debt because Adult Swim are backstabbing faggots.

I only "dropped" it when I stopped watching TV altogether, but the first episode I actively disliked was "All that glitters" (or something like that). The last episodes I remember watching were "Spongebob's Last Stand" and the one with a biker gang (I think Spongebob misreads their name or some shit like that).

It's hard to pinpoint. I knew something was off right when S4 premiered, but I continued rubbernecking. I think the gum episode was the first to viscerally disgust me. I recall something afterwards being even worse to where I finally went "Okay, what in the actual fuck.", but I don't remember which one it particularly was. For context I don't know jack shit about anything past S7 outside of a stray thread like this telling me something completely clown shoes like how Bubble Bass is the Nostalgia Critic now.

the procrastination one

Modern Spongebob is fucking unwatchable. Took the charming style and witty humor of the original three seasons and threw all that out of the window over the most fucking unfunny sensory overloads that could pass as psychological warfare to use on POWs

Saw a bunch of normalfags praise it as "classic episode vibes" but I just don't fucking see it

The other shows didn't feel chill or interesting to watch randomly. I can go back to any episode of the first 3 seasons of Spongebob and enjoy it without feeling tired. At the same time the art in general for Spongebob felt like I wanted to live in that world and just chill. Just look at these background art from s1-3.

trunks.jpg - 1098x815, 94.27K

...no they didn't? It was only the one episode.
Do Spongeboomers really not even factcheck the shit they talk about?

It's kind of hack though. I understand that Spongebob is being written and animated by zoomers now but who the fuck is going to get an internet cartoon rantsona joke outside of an extremely small pocket of people? Grampa isn't going to laugh at it. Billy isn't going to laugh at it. Chad isn't going to laugh at it. Spongebob exploded in the first place because it was universal yet so cleverly written. I mean it'd be alright if it was a little comic book guy kind of thing but no, it goes on for for like five minutes and is so hyper specific you'd think one of the animator's mom got raped by Mr. Enter or something.

What happened to Mr. Puff?

this is a fucking BLUE BOARD anon take that to Anon Babble

just immature grossout garbage or fast paced brainrot for toddlers

It's not just that. Everyone suddenly sounds Jewish or has a Jewish sitcom sense of humour, or is randomly aggressive - ie, Patrick violently hits Spongebob almost every episode they're together.

sex

The oldest zoomers are only 30. There can't be that many of them on SB's production studio and I doubt any of them are leading teams.

kill yourself

Imagine defending modern spongebob

The oldest zoomers are only 30.

Anon, the youngest millenials are turning 30. The oldest zoomers are 26-27.

as a dumb kid i loved the episode. But then, i always liked "gamified" shit in cartoons where it was like levels and worlds and bosses

I never understood what the point of this special was.

It was just a ratings stunt and it had mild success so they made every new Spongebob episode a "special" to try and keep up the momentum.

Seems like a lot of entertainment just sucks or at best mediocre. If you look at all the western cartoons coming out the past decade, it just looks immature, meta commentary, relying on nostalgia, or looks corpo safe . There are no passion or talent in them. If people are praising Steven Universe or Hazbin Hotel as being good cartoons then I don't want what the new generation of creators are producing.

I don't have any caps on me but I've seen quite a few xeets of people going "just storyboarded S48E3! so happy to be a part of the bob team now :*" and I'd click their profile and the birthday, if there, would always be like '98 minimum. I remember one in particular that made a few rounds on Anon Babble of an animator getting hired and she was only like 16. I don't have that on me either but it had of drawing of her saluting with Spongebob attached.

Why don't we take the thread and PUSH IT somewhere else?

The procrastination episode was the first time I noticed a cartoon get censored as a kid. They cut a whole minute long scene from the episode. Just One Bite's censorship is more famous but it's a shorter cut than this one.

Everything is too expensive to be good anymore. You can't have anything medium budget and everything high budget is now so high that you have execs cracking down harder than ever.

That's also not to say that their seems to be competency crisis with writers, probably because all the good ones got fed up with the state of things and either left or were forced out.

Hell yeah

Can't remember what episode this was from.

it was the one where they thought squidward died and became a ghost, and your pic rel was a sculpture that they squished

Band Geeks, how the fuck isn't this the definitive answer here?

I don't remember but it wasn't long after the first movie. Sometime during S4. I know people site S3 as the drop-off but I think there are still a few good ones in the beginning of S4 then it immediately goes to shit.

i liked it but it tries to fit too many jokes within one scene too often

I remember this episode making me feel dread for some reason. Just the idea of Spongebob and Patrick being trapped for eternity serving the Flying Dutchman. But I guess that's the whole joke, Spongebob and Patrick being in this horrid predicament yet acting like the hilarious dunces they typically act like

Band Geeks. Used to watch it in black and white on my VideoNow

I'd love a remaster of the movie game. That is still one of my favorite games ever. The fucking difficulty spike at the final level combined with the fact you're in Plankton's town really makes the whole level almost terrifying to play.

the panty raid trope is completely lost on this generation

alone

It wasn't one particular episode, season 4 in general just wore me down and kept hitting me over the head with "they're running out of ideas, they're running out of ideas". They only aired the first four seasons in our local TV network and, frankly, I'm not that bothered by it. Nothing past season 3 is worth watching

I clicked a random nu-bob episode for credits out of curiosity and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting but out of all of them I chose a stop motion one so I assume they needed more people with actual talent...

Danny Giovannini - 1996 (animation writer)
Kyle Morrison - 1989 (storyboard artist) Not a zoomer but a tranny hyper furry porn artist which I found funny.
Bikram Singh - Couldn't find the birthday, but lawl GOOD MORNING SAAR. (storyboard revisionist)

What kills me is what happened with Tom Kenny's voice. For over a decade his Spongebob voice has sounded incredibly nasally and forced. After the first three seasons it just changed for the worse, nowhere as a natural sounding

908_v9_bd.jpg - 360x480, 39.72K

Oh God... I also happen to really like Shadow. It's so over for me bros

Yup there are still countless aspiring animators and young people are more likely to snap up anything no matter how shit the pay definitely is. It's how Vivzie established monkeybranching from pumping out web indie to an Amazon prime deal.

all things must go

Kek this is probably what started my Anon Babbleescent. I remember thinking about this episode obsessively after the first time I watched it

I think it's pizza delivery episode.
Probably the episode with the squidward toenail gore.

Mostly the premise. It's about a talking sponge living in a pineapple underwater. What fucking kid isn't gonna do backflips if you pitched him that? Then you add on bright and charming animation, music that is easy on the ears yet still catchy, decent and inoffensive voice acting. The show was designed with success in mind. Everyone else just threw shit at the wall and expected the writers to make up for the rest

Shadowbros...

Don't blame them with how many influencers get accused of being creeps. Not being sensitive around anything related to sexuality is basically taboo at this point.

Can't believe there was a time where people acted like classic spongebob was worse than fucking ren and stimpy.

SEX

We'll have to go through... The perfume department!

He's just standing there...

Tom comes back for Spyro

Completely and utterly strained while trying so hard to fight the post-movie Spongebob voice like he's being possessed by an ancient Sumerian demon

I swear as a kid I saw this episode twice, it and the one where Squidward travels through time were two episodes that were just never on when I watched SpongeBob. At first I thought I dreamed of the snail transformation episode before I realized it was real.

[cope]
Generations are loosely defined by common traits and don't have set age ranges. I think people born in 1995 have more in common with those born in the 5 years following than the 5 prior.
[/cope]

The rare one for me was the one where they were cavemen. I think it also was the one with the "worlds collide" song special thing.

everything is a so sexualized now
it's just fucking tickling, they didn't have sex or foot fetishes on the mind when making this scene

Spongeboomers

The early seasons of the show had fewer unintentionally strange faces because the storyboarding process was completely different. The original process involved the storyboard artists passing much more detailed sketches to animation, which would be more or less preserved in motion.
But after the first movie, they switched to a totally different process where much rougher doodles were what gets passed to animation. So a lot of the little quirks of the doodles make it through into the final product that didn't before. That's why SpongeBob has the weird cheeks in a lot of Aaron Springer episodes.

As a zoomer, I think I only know of such a concept because I saw that episode when I was young. I really can't imagine what kids nowadays are like now that sex has been stripped out of so many things. I wonder if they even know about the concept of things being hidden in underwear drawers, or Hell, the concept of underwear drawers at all. It is like I was born into a dying world.

I didn't realize tom kenny was patches until like years after I stopped watching spongebob

Squidward is clearly the best character.

judean slop

The pacing is a lot better, and the art looks a lot more like it used to. It's not perfect, but it's a huge improvement, and I hope they learn from it.

I cannot for the life of me find it because of the enshittification of Google but I once saw a model sheet from early Spongebob telling the animators

for every one zany expression, draw one hundred normal expressions

The relative groundedness was fully intentional, and it made the occasional wackiness stand out more. Too much wackiness becomes visual noise.

what was the deal with that anyway? There was also a 4th of July Fairly Odd Parents episode where Timmy travels back in time to meet the founding fathers and accidentally stops Ben Franklin from discovering electricity that never aired again

What the fuck do I play on this thing? I just bought one so that I can play Death Stranding 2 at launch, and I'm playing Tekken 2 right now.
I'm pretty sure I'm one of ten people tops on planet Earth that went :O when they saw they could download Tekken 2 for free.

SB-129
RISE UP

I think they aired episodes in cycles and a lot of the time those episodes were probably on around school time for a regular kid. Or the people who made the schedules just picked out specific episodes more than others.

spongeboomers

bomber.png - 563x561, 255.22K

Nothing ever gets the time it actually needs, either it just goes straight from one thing happening to the next, there's never any rise and fall. You wouldn't get a joke like Photosynthesis, Photosynthesis from Karate Choppers any more. SpongeBob would literally morph into a gross plant and "overcommit" to the idea, and that would be the joke.

I vaguely remember that one too. I assume it is popularity related. I feel like all of the fairly odd parents episodes with the Darth Vader Rip Off in them were rare too.

for me it was pic related
i think they aired it once throughout my entire childhood

ghost-bob.png - 400x225, 129.07K

I think people born in 1995 have more in common with those born in the 5 years following than the 5 prior.

A lot of us do, but I was getting flak for being a millennial in the 2010s, so I take great umbrage at being called a zoomer. I also genuinely just don't have much in common with zoomers and have much more in common with millennials.

You're thinking of the same episode where George Washington has an OCD compulsion to chop wood, including hacking his own teeth out of his mouth, right? That aired all the time.

spongeboomers

damn that's a good one, I'm gonna use it now

The jelly fish jam episode and the one where squidward drives a giant rock

or Hell, the concept of underwear drawers at all

Yeah, I store my underwear in a pile on the floor like a fucking caveman

Play Disgaea
Kind of on topic for the thread too since Disgaea characters act a lot like western cartoon characters.

D2_Etna.png - 520x985, 368.8K

Its a huge 2001 a space odyssey reference episode

I don't play video games

I was born in 1998, but my first video game console was a PS1, and we used VHS tapes for years. And I also watched a lot of Nick GaS and Nicktoons (Network), so I feel a lot more culturally aligned with Millennials than Zoomers.

Club Spongebob

Like all good parodies it's funny even if you've never seen the source material

I think George washington appeared more times after that original one because they liked the bit, but the other ones never did

SpongeBob has a video game?

I think it's Shanghaied for me as well. It had multiple endings that they asked us to vote for, and they originally aired it with Patchy the Pirate revealing the results of the poll to us. It was hype!

Nta but, I think they were recurring characters. The flashback episode was like a parody of the types of American history cartoons they'd show you as a kid. They were brought back for at least one more episode where Timmy has to fight some foes on an island. Speaking of that show's parodies, now I remember the extra long special episode with the TV remote and the older future version. That episode was actually quite offensive in each one of its parodies lol, it felt like an adult cartoon.

I hate to say it, but Laharl always gave me Invader Zim vibes.

Multiple ones infact

You just posted it! That game was sick.
You get to visit so many noteworthy locations from the cartoon, and they recorded a shitload of dialogue for it.

In hindsight Ren & Stimpy was really forgettable. The biggest thing I remember it for is the Sneedsons throwing shade at it for the notorious premiere delays it had

After he gave the performance of his lifetime as Simon Petrikov everything else paled in comparison

band geeks
or the one where they keep making fun of texas

You know there's no question with that. It's always going to be BfBB. (I Stan Operation Krabby Patty, Employee of the Month, and the PC version BfBB too)

My sister is the same age as you and acts much more zoomery than I imagine you do, funnily enough.
It's like real life has nuance, or something...

As a kid it made me so happy that I could see how all the show locations connected, Im sure its non canon or whatever but it felt like I was really learning the layout of bikini bottom and the places around it
The PC point and clicks are all fucking kino. Those and putt putt were my bread and butter as a kid. Even the Movie one wasnt bad. Lights Camera Pants wasn't quite as good but it was fun how much there was to do.

The most prominent thing I remember from that is that they did a parody where Steve from Blue's Clues was obviously a low functioning alcoholic who didn't give a shit about the show. That's their own IP. That's why they felt so comfortable being so mean about it.

They only play the brain/weresnail one on Halloween or during special events which is why you barely saw it

Do kids even watch cartoons anymore?

On YouTube

I always loved The Paper. But it never aired except with Valentines Day, so it was always a treat for me.

I imagine they seek out the content themselves now, rather than just watching whatever was on TV before they go to school, like I did.

No, they watch Skibidi Toilet and other stuff on their phones

CAN YOU FEEL IT MISTER KRABS?
CAN YOU FEEL IT MISTER KRABS?

There are just so many good episodes!

Seeing how they look nowadays, I hope they don't. Your average ecchi anime is more wholesome than a lot of the shit western cartoon companies are putting out now. They put out stuff that feels like they are made for random Tumblr adults and not actual kids. Then you get stuff like Baymax grabbing tampons or nonstop butt fart jokes.

Actual cartoons? No.

I love how they immediately end the episode without ever telling us the secret ingredient

Im sure its non canon or whatever but it felt like I was really learning the layout of bikini bottom and the places around it

Same, it really felt awesome seeing how they managed to make all of those places connect to each other

I didn't even know this episode existed until I rewatched the series as an adult

Yes/No
They DO watch shit like nickelodeon and stuff, but they're not actively trying to watch it, it's just "there" usually because their parents have cable.
A lot of what they DO watch, is the sort of horrid regurgitated "essay" and "commentary" partners (yes, partners, youtube is a shithole these days) to watch some of the older episodes.

Could they not just have each jeet here animate his own episode over the course of a month and produce 100s of episode of slopcontent each year?

Will you shutthefuckup?

Is there a franchise where the drop in quality is as immediately apparent as it is in spongebob? Even as a kid, I thought fear of the krabby patty felt like a complete 180 in the tone and style of the show, and it's sad to think that a show as famous as SpongeBob literally only has 3 good seasons.

Chocolate with Nuts. Has a ton of consistently great jokes and running gags and general good SpongeBob and Patrick shenanigans.

Nah, most of the time you need several to actually come up with a half decent episode and fill out the timeslot for the upload.

No. They've moved on from cartoons, and now consume Skibidi and Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Sahur

TEEE TOTIDILY TOTIDILY TOTIDILY TOTIDILY TOOOO

The MCU is a good candidate. The transition from Infinity War to Endgame is horrible. You can feel the drop in quality and ruination in real time. Everything in Infinity War felt like it was building up to something and everyone was allowed to be cool. Endgame was a stupid joke of a movie. This also spelled what was going to come for the rest of Hollywood in the coming years.

Oh it's even worse than that Anon, they don't actually watch that shit.
Youtube just bullshits the metrics.
It's pretty much been like this ever since Mr. Beast paid them a bunch of shitcoin to make him the "most viewed" channel.
Barely anyone is actually WATCHING youtube, and most of the viewership is generated on people youtube has determined are straight up asleep or forgotten their phone on somewhere.

He watched marvel slop after guardians of the galaxy 1

This is true. YouTube counts any time that it even shows a Short to someone as a view regardless of whether or not they actually watched it.

I'm pretty sure the average Gen Alpha just neurotically fidgets around and occasionally screams all day. They don't need anything to sustain them, no one can truly know what goes on in their head. All the years of boomer fear mongering about kids has actually been completely personified.

I'm sure I'm going to sound like a huge douche to you by saying this, but I watched Iron Man in theaters and knew at that moment that I wasn't really gonna be down for any subsequent Marvel movies.

they didn't have sex or foot fetishes on the mind when making this scene

is late regular show that bad? I fell off when CN kept fucking the release schedule and made new episodes impossible to watch

Guardians 2 was pretty good also though I know that doesn't count as it is mostly divorced from the rest of Marvel. I mostly just like seeing what ridiculous shit they do in new movies as it humors me. You also occasionally get something that feels like it would've been good in an alternate timeline like Multiverse of Madness.

Dan "get in the van" Schneider is a special case, but even then, as a kid I personally never saw any of that foot stuff as sexual at all, just filler humor.

Late Regular Show has some good moments, but it fell into the Adventure Time trap of caring too much about relationships and drama instead of the original funny stoner comedy.

weesnaw

No anon, I'm saying maybe AT MOST partner videos have like 100th the viewership they're purporting to have.
Youtube does shit like allowing people to upload several thumbnails specifically for the purpose of tricking people into viewing them several times over and/or try and trick people who are actively avoiding channels into clicking on a video that's had its "branding" disguised
There's a plugin called BlockTube and if youtube detects that you're using it, it will straight up disable the context menu from loading to prevent you from using it to block videos.
It is genuinely fucking ATROCIOUS the level of bullshit youtube (well, essentially the entire core web, but youtube is especially heinous about this shit) is on at this point.

I don't really think this sounds rude or anything. I personally already watched it all in a semi-ironic state because you can laugh at bad stuff and then tune in when the odd cool thing happens. This is truer to how the original comics were meant to be enjoyed anyway.

Ah that sucks. I think Adventure does an ok job riding the line, I thought the Islands series was a phenomenal end to Finn's character arc, but its hard to imagine regular show pulling that off, especially when most of the characters are inherently unlikable

I know it might sound ultra-faggy but Spongebob was a show with class to it.
Situations are realistic but with cartoony hijinx, without being overly realistic or too trashy. The main cast was concise, with only about 7-9 major characters that were all introduced early on. Episodes don't have continuity or make callbacks, so each story was easily accessible without having to be familiar with the cast or premise. The cast were mostly adults, yet still partook in activities that a kid would find relatable while also in grown-up situations too.
People cite reasons like Spongebob and Squidwards character dynamic or its memorable comedic moments, but in truth it was designed from the ground up to be as universal as possible. Stoners, parents, your elementary school teacher, grandparents, college kids. They all loved Spongebob despite rather watching something like Family Guy.

'Ugh' is the 2001 Space Odyssey episode

Regular Show is trash from the 100 year burger episode just because of that ending. Absolutely fuck Benson, it makes me actually angry

Kino game

They're starting to form communities now. They literally don't have personalities. They define themselves through what fandom their in through "boards" and collect pride flags like they're pokemon. So yeah. Might as well just be a bunch of twitching potatoes.

All true, SpongeBob is probably the only thing to come out of the West that actually takes its audience (and self) seriously too. It is why many parents instantly relented and allowed their kids to watch the new "idiot show" when they saw what it was actually like. Modern SpongeBob is a different animal though. I'm not even talking about semi modern either. Everything after the Sponge Out of Water movie is complete diluted garbage that is made to be just like everything else and written without care. I think this is also when they did the ridiculous global warming PSA.

Adventure Time at least has lore and took itself in its own direction. Unless you like Mordecai constantly being an awkward fuck who shoots himself in the foot every other episode and becoming less likeable from being torn between his love interests, or the writers trying to write Muscle Man and Starla's relationship as anything more than a joke, it's hard to sit through it all. Rigby and Eileen are somewhat cute, but it's also nothing to write home about.

Nah I'd say Adventure Time immediately cratered after the first or second season.

Children are being actively fucked up from technology in permanent ways. What makes you think they have the capacity to watch toons anymore ?

The Sandy hibernation one. Who you callin' Pinhead is an all time good joke.

It didn't help that benson was a dickhead from the start

band episode

gay opinion. Just because its not spongebob 2 staying goofy and episodic doesnt mean it isnt great. Everything involving the ice king, both serious and comedic, was kino

I don't think children really exist anymore. A lot of the ones I see outside seem fake in one way or the other.

Here's a real question for you. Which Season 1-3 episodes do you like the least? For Season 1, I have to say The Chaperone. It's not bad at all. It's full of good jokes, but the premise isn't really fun for the first third of the episode at the most charitable.

Season 2, Gary Takes a Bath. It feels more like a season 4 episode to me than a season 2 episode.

Season 3, I have to go with Krabby Land. I just didn't like how cruel Mr. Krabs was in it.

Felt real fucking stupid last year when I finally realized Rigby and his love interest are named after the Beatles song

Oh no I'm not saying EVERY show has to be entirely episodic and there can't be overarching plots spread out over multiple episodes.
I'm saying that specifically adventure time got worse when it started trying to.
To a point where it caused an issue where even the ostensibly episodic episodes got worse.

I used to obsessively replay this and find ways to break it. For instance there's a split second where you can snatch the can from that anchovy before he takes it and skip that segment.

SB-129 comes to mind
Band Geeks is basically the definitive Spongebob episode though, very Anon Babble adjacent as well
Looking over the episodes, there's way too many that I remember clearly despite not having watched basically any Spongebob in 15+ years or something. Everything up to the movie was so good

Infinity War was actually just too fucking kino for the MCU's own good because Villain MCs are so rare it's absolute kino. Endgame sadly is the opposite of that were it's pure wish fulfillment besides retiring a few characters. I do agree with you that it shows the difference between having a plan and not as Endgame clearly didn't have a vision

WHY THE FUCK DID YOU MOVE BOTH OF THESE THREADS TO Anon Babble?

Was Anon Babble full? What the fuck.

OH SORRY JANNY WAS THIS THREAD WITH ACTUAL DISCUSSION PUSHING DOWN ALL THE SHITPOSTING AND TWITTER THREADS
