Good question. I was married once, and when I was on a MEU and came back, my wife confessed that she fucked some guy.

No, I watched Full Metal Jacket a ton though. I was on the fence about enlisting because my dad was a Marine, and his dad as well, in Vietnam. But my dad was fucked up in the head so I was worried that would happen to me.

Anyways, I ended up enlisting because a recruiter showed up at our high school and I was a retarded 17 year old and never had a parental figure. So all the recruiter had to do was throw some compliments my way. Next thing I knew, I'm getting my parents' signature for a contract, in the MEPS program (basically a program to get you in shape before you go to bootcamp), and shipped out to bootcamp as soon as I turned 18.

Because I had no interest in getting my ass kicked in Bootcamp but on steroids for multiple months. I was fine with my MOS. Got to go to a bunch of cool courses that had to do with law enforcement, which were accredited and applicable for my resume when I left the Marine Corps.

Good question, when I enlisted in 2014 I was barely 18 years old and still very patriotic about the USA. You know, the whole "terrorists are bad, lets save Afghanistan" thing. Also, ISIS was becoming a bigger and bigger threat, so it seemed like I NEED to join to help America.

On the topic of Iraq, looking back on it now, I don't think the war was justified on our part. I think unfortunately a lot of veterans, at least the old timers I've talked to, feel the same way.

When 9/11 happened, the whole country rose up in unison and wanted revenge. I was only six or seven at the time, but you could FEEL the love and unity. It felt like war was justified.

As time went on, we all started wondering...okay...what are we still doing here? Why are we fighting? To kill terrorists? To catch Sadam? Bin Laden? Are we literally going to STAY here until we rebuild all of the middle east?

Now, lots of veterans feel like we were all just used. There's a lot of money for the US government to make from oil and privatized military contracts. It honestly feels like a huge waste of time, and also lost a lot of friends for what feels like no reason.

I never saw combat directly. Just a lot of aftermath and stuff. But have way too many friends that drank themselves to death. Good people, used and abused, who didn't deserve to die.

Yeah, of course. I was enlisted AFTER the "Don't ask don't tell" policy was removed. So I knew gay people, and even some gay niggas. They weren't open about it, but some people in the unit just happened to be gay and everyone knew. Nobody gave a fuck. That's what I liked about the Marine Corps. No matter how racist, sexist, or homophobic someone was, it was always just jokingly. It was just one huge dysfunctional family.

Don't know about the Corps, but prior to the end of DADT, I knew several gay soldiers (I was Army 04-12), and nobody cared. They all were judged by how well they did their job, nothing else.

He actually listened to me, took advice from me, and didn't try to overshadow me and my Platoon. He just let me do my thing, and gave me whatever orders that came from Top.
