For most people, it's not every day it's at max 9 hours per day 5 days per week with breaks. I've mostly been a NEET since graduating uni in 2022 and I can tell you not having a job gets a bit boring after a while. Sure I can play games all day but after a while, there comes a point where you wouldn't mind sparing 5 to 8 hours per day working to make some money. This is not to mention work often involves interacting with other people and that's something I'd enjoy even as a hardcore introvert because I hardly talk to anyone without a job. Also, having a job greatly increases your chance of getting laid or getting a gf. Even if I get dates from dating apps, the moment they find out I'm unemployed they lose interest. I've lied about this before but it'd be easier to just have a job and tell the truth. And ofc there might be a cute girl at your work who flirts with you and it'd feel much more organic than using the apps.

I got a degree in mechanical engineering. I can't use this knowledge in an every day (or even monthly) basis unless I find someone willing to pay me to use my brain and experience. I am willing to exchange this use and my time using it for financial compensation, which allows me to exchange these slips of paper for other things.

Yeah, I could not use my brain, live off the land and make my own farming plot, and build my own log cabin in the woods, and "work" 12 hour days until I am unable to do so. Or, and hear me out, I could use my brain and exchange these paper slips for someone else to do it for me. Likely, people that have more experience doing these things, and yielding a much better result. Hell, I can even exchange these slips for someone else to fix me when I hurt myself. And I can save these paper slips indefinitely to exchange for shit in the future, possibly even coaxing one of those female types to give me sex in exchange of knowing those slips will be available to them to use for whatever they want.

I would rather work 8 hours a day doing math and designing cool shit than working the fields and freezing my ass off in my fucboi shack wondering if next day will be my last.
