I don’t doubt that the project’s broader goal to reintroduce extinct keystone species and help restore ecosystems damaged by human activity is genuine. i really do think they're trying to do good in the world with this.
...But also I think it's a little misguided.
This isn't like yellowstone where wolves were extinct in the area for 70 years before being reintroduced. Direwolves have been extinct for 10,000 years and we don't know enough yet to know if reintroducing them is a good idea. But the technology they're using and the precedent they are setting I think is really significant especially for species that are extant right now and need help.
Also if we ignore ethics I think a pleistocene park would be really cool and make lots of money. we already have dog pageants whats the big deal.
