I looked at some historical sources and the ways in which marriages were arranged (Europe).
And many things that were normal would be considered creepy today.
For example, marriages where the girl would be between 14 and 18, and the man in his twenties or sometimes even thirties.
The reason for this was because they believed that a girl was ready for marriage when she could bear children, and a man was ready for marriage when he could provide for a family.
To make matters even stranger by today's standards, very often a man would start "grooming" that girl at the age of 12/13. This was with the girl's family's knowledge.
In a way, that man (future husband) would be preparing to replace the role of father in her life.
What do you think about this?

I would also like to add that the idea that a girl is underage and not allowed to have sex before the age of 18 was a completely non-existent concept at that time.

That something that did happen but that doesn't mean it was ever considered good or normal. People has always know that children are children through all of history and more often than not people didn't like their children to be married that young, the most common age to get married in the past was the 20s.

You may think so, but in truth the age gap between couples in Europes middle ages and up to lodern day was an average of something like one or two years.

People married early In their teens or 20's, and marriages between men in their 20's and girls in their teens were pretty normal.

From teh traditional standpoint, as soon as a girl reaaches full puberty she's good to go in terms of marriage and motherhood. So 15-16 yo was a pretty normal age for a woman to marry and son after to bare children.
My Polish grandmother who was born in the 1930 in East Prussia married as a teen and had her first born at the age of 15 yo. And that was considered normal. Her husband was about 5 years older than her.

Further in the it was often a reason to cry when they had to marry an old man. Teen marrying a 30 or even 40+ year old man. Usually the reason for such marriages was simply money. It depends if the man is the son of a farmer and continues the same job then the differences were small. But if the man was a craftsman (for example a blacksmith), where more years of apprenticeship were required which would delay his marriage. If we can't trust parents we need a social body that can speak to and represent the younger person, or put accountability for their will onto like, the person doing the marriage ceremony or something.
I see this as a problem if some families are low key abusive or neglectful if the young person isn't cooperating with their arrangement.
