I'd love to keep a basil plant alive. I love pesto sauce
yumm. I just had more ramen......... I want moe food but i dojt wannt have to many cals

I'd like to grow some Thai basil.

What kind of ramen did you make? I like do do my ramen with a miso broth. Make some miso broth, throw in some green onion, some tofu, seaweed, some other veggies, a ramen egg, some chili paste, and some pork along with the noodles.

A lot of the stuff is really just old people trying to tell stories that they have heard or read.

im sobroke i cant even pull that off. Tonkotsu ramen from walmart with a fried egg was all i coudl do. hopefull i can have soemthing decent in a week

I'd never knock the cheap foods for broke people. If that's all you can afford that's all you can afford. I'm fortunate that, at this point in time, I can afford decent ingredients to make food. How did you fry the egg?

Egxtra most eeby

shit smells like cum

A half decent LED light, China can make some good stuff there, Shenzen Kingbrite is breddy gud.
I don't expect you wanna grow much but basil usually needs lotsa light, 60-100W should be plenty for any herb.
No way to set them outside nearby and guerilla? Lemme sober up a lil here and think about things.

No, I live in an apartment and the management is big on fining people for shit. They tried to fine me for smoking on my balcony but I had quit smoking cigarettes months before and wasn't even at home when they supposedly caught me. Basil, thyme, oregano, and rosemary. They don't need a lot of space, so I could possibly grow them easily in my cramped apartment. Just gotta keep the industrial solvents away from them.

I remember you told me about the smoking thing, total bs.
Dunno what I was thinking with 60-100w, 50w will be fine for your needs. Mayyybe 60w for that extra kick of energy, the plants will thank you.
If you can make a lil space to put all that into a big STURDY cardboard box in the corner or something, that would be great because of all the paint stuffs you got around.
Also that light is gonna SHINE, it's either gonna piss you off big time or you get used to it. You won't need much other lighting in the place.
Anyway, all that light is wasted and should be contained or you're basically throwing change out of the window nonstop, little by little. It's lost energy that doesn't go to the plants.
Also nice to be able to have some control over temps and humidity levels, which is much easier in a contained space.
Bugs! Every time I had basil on my windowsill I had problems with aphids and those aren't the only ones who might be around.

I could go on but I'm making it sound like too much stuff already and I'm not even slinging science, heh, this is my kinda nerd-out stuff.
Besides, if you do it I'd like to have you do it at least semi-right. Growing herbs is easy af and a whole lotta fun.

It was total bull shit. I'd probably want to do a series of ceramic pots. Having cardboard like that could attract roaches. Roaches love cardboard. I wouldn't have to keep the light on 24/7 would I?

I thought they were on a mission to kick you out of there but I always expect the wurst.
Ceramic pots are great but you can go plastic without a problem, doesn't really make a diff for herbs except ceramic pots look much nicer and, well, it's not plastic.
Plastic is bah. Cardboard will also soak up humidity and become unstable, that's why it should be STURDY. But better no cardboard box I think.
You can also just hang some blankets or whatever in front of the whole thing. Ideally you'd get a smol grow tent, this is exactly what they're made for.

You can decide how you light them, if you go 24/7 you'll get fast growth and also a fattened bill.
Herbs need a minimum of about 5 hours of light per day to do well, I like to imitate nature as closely as possible and 24/7 sun is pretty dang rare.
We have the power over the power so let's say anything from 10-18 hours, depending on species.
More energy = more chlorophyl = more terpenes = more taste = more mmh culinary delight
Here it kinda goes into the science with DPI levels, how much light energy the plants can absorb during the daytime.
But it's herbs, we don't really have to perfect things.

I assume they are. Every few months they hit me with some other bullshit accusations.

Plastic wouldn't be too bad. Get a large plastic box and I could plant multiple plants in them, right? Would probably be good for space to plant ratios.

18 hours a day would be too much light for me and too expensive. Besides, I don't need them to grow quickly.

Do you know if any other tenants get the same shit?
For indoor herbening I'd recommend a pot with about 6in height, 16in width and it's gonna be around 5in in depth.
One of those things people hang on their balcony railing. Of course with holes in the bottom and a tray to stand in, the soil needs to be able to drain or you drown the roots.
That'll give you nice space for about five basil plants, which might be way overkill lol. You're gonna have pesto till kingdom come. Also crowding is no good.
There should be one seperate pot for each kinda herb, a lil segregation here.
As I said, you'll ride fine with a 10/14 day/night lighting rhythm. That's plenty energy to thrive.
I like you getting into some gardening, you'll see it's not hard to keep a plant alive. Even a bunch of them. I remember your experience with that poor succulent heh.

I'm not sure if anybody else ks getting the same treatment. I don't know any of my neighbors by name or sight.

Nah, I'd only need, like, one plant of each kind. Maybe a couple of plants for something, like, thyme. Could even do some wild garlic maybe.

Yes, I don't even know how that happened. It's a succulent, it doesn't need a lot of water and I didn't give it a lot of water. Maybe I'll grow some dandelions. They're pretty useful and edible.
