I should also add that a lot of people attribute the new economy to the transition of the US dollar from the gold standard to fiat, which in large part is the case, but there were a shit ton of other factors in play at the time too, both contributing directly to the shit we're in and also contributing to the the factors that led to the decision to switch to fiat.
