When will grocery prices come down?

When will grocery prices come down?

Asparagus just went up 30% at my store it's like $6 a pound now

When will grocery prices come down?

when grocery chains get tired of record-breaking profits.
which is to say, "never."
this is the new normal.

How do you figure the grocery stores are at fault?

throw seeds into dirt in backyard

seeds grow up in a month and give you free groceries plus new seeds

Grocery prices???

You've never grown food in your life

You forgot to rename your screenshot

Its cause of those vaccines

Since you're committed to this larp I'll pretend that you grew those. You have about 100 calories pictured. That's not enough for breakfast, let alone to replace all your groceries from the store. You are not going to grow all of your own food in your backyard.

When will they go down... as soon as you start selling them for cheaper and become a millionaire doing it you pussy leftist cunt.

That's not what you were saying when Biden was president.

I was on a cut at the time, didn't need much

jalapenis.jpg - 1538x991, 1.17M

literally every company ever jacks up prices during the pandemic

even more price increases if minimum wage goes up so they don't lose a single penny

wuh happun?!?!?!?

Remove the scales from thine eyes

no clue how making food works

you gotta eat all the hot peppers raw at once for the hunnit calreees

Leave the city occasionally

City folks can't comprehend hot pepper jelly

Grew my best peppers in cities both times.
90s on the top of an apartment building in Seattle. 2015-19 in a couple 2'dia barrel halves in North Tacoma.
Household made so much amazing Pepper Jelleh. Used it in nearly everything.

Holy shit you retards have to be the dumbest people on the planet. Here, I'll break it down for you. A human needs 2000 calories a day on average. That's 730,000 calories a year which is 430 kWh. Photosynthetic efficiency of crop products is about 0.25%, the growing season in most places across the US is 180 days, and solar insolation is about 1000w/m2.

430,000/(1000*0.0025*180*24)= 40 square meters or 430 square feet at minimum if there's not a single cloud in the sky for the whole growing season. You aren't growing all of your own food.

And there was no cause for any of this?

Based roof grower, I'm sure they liked the rain you guys get out there.

there is hardly any rain in the late spring and summer here. Add an aluminum roof, and you have a perfect environment for all sun-loving nightshades

My BMR is 1.6k and I lift daily. The average person needs nowhere near 2k calories unless you're obese (average American)

Irrelevant. You don't grow all of your own food. Cope harder.

You'd be surprised at the yield of a 4x10 area if you regularly put grass clipping on the soil

greems.jpg - 1912x1079, 1.92M

Honestly, two 2'dia pots, grown on rotation with onion/garlic, salad mix, two high yield pepper plants, and some mixed herbs, gives us daily greens and herbs/spices from Spring through very late Fall here.
We use Tagro (a local municipal waste compost byproduct, free to residents) as the main soil amendment.
We are currently scaling up. I am building more planters out of free recycled pallets.

With a BMR like that, you're a manlet. Maybe 150 lbs - and I'm being generous.

No I would not. There are hard physical limits that you cannot exceed. You're growing, at best, a tenth of your own food.

Pallet wood is contaminated

Anime is a crazy, unusual style of animation that has gone all in on total escapism and magical realism, and yet somehow Nipponese traditionalism has utterly thwarted them from considering the plausibility of creating nonhuman women who aren't limited by human femininity while still retaining physical attractiveness. Instead, they keep trying to make human women more manlike but also more girly to "subvert" that girlboss mannishness as if the idea that not all creatures have to be Homo sapiens with the standards of Homo sapiens is too creative for their autistic Asian brains. Meanwhile, Westoids are too obsessed with making women into men and men into girls and would assume "this suspiciously humanlike woman is actually capable of kicking ass and being honorable without collapsing into quivering vulnerability the moment she has to be held up to consequences" is actually misogyny and therefore we need more vantablack transwomyn to make up for your sins.
The solution is to stop using female characters in fiction altogether.

You'd be surprised how filling salads are and how quick lettuce grows.

Again, no I would not. Sorry your larp didn't work out, manlet.

If you insist on higher calorie foods green beans are good too

depends on what it was used for. The ground contact pieces, certainly, but they'll only be used for the ground contact parts.
Specifically sourced these from farm supply stores. New wood; just crap cuts.

They will be lined with 8mil garden mat, and then further lined with scrap unused 1' tiles from a remodel I did Before Covid. Cleaner than the local soil.

People would be more willing to listen if you could have a worth a fuck campaign. Bet it on someone who isn't a woman too. From California no less? Barf.

You know it's possible to maximize minimal growing space using buckets, hoses, and pvc pipe to grow crops vertically, right? You won't grow a whole field's worth, but you can absolutely grow a single family's yearly vegetables in a back yard if you put the effort in to learn how and then do it correctly. Look up "home hydroponics" and see for yourself some of the farming tools and techniques of the postmodern age that are available to our civilization.

The manlet doesn't produce anything except mediocrity and estrogen you are wasting your time

That's irrelevant. You can't grow more crops with the same amount of light.

absolutely grow a single family's yearly vegetables in a back yard

Not without a large backyard or supplemental lighting. You cannot exceed the physical limits of the system.

Are you the twig claiming to be a body builder who grows all his own food?

Mmmm microplastics

hence the tile barrier. Duh.

besides, microplastics are a meme. Very few veggies actually uptake any measurable amount. You get more out of drinking water bottles.

Oh yeah, that'll totally stop it.

Inb4

vertical farming is a larp

growing a family's worth of food is a larp

hydroponics is a larp

Yeah, but I'm bored.

That's irrelevant

Didn't realize I was gonna be arguing with 7-of-9 about backyard farming today, fucking kek

Anyway, yes, you absolutely can grow that much without supplemental lighting, there is nothing stopping the sun from getting to your plants if you don't design your setup like a fucknut. If you're too stupid to pick plants that finish out during the local growing season and don't need to be moved indoors under sunlamps that's your own problem.

Furthermore, the smallest average backyards in the US are about 7300 square feet, far more than the 430 you decided on. Which, while some do, not everyone in the world has a tiny yard like yours. It's not impossible to grow crops in your yard unless you're stupid and/or lazy.

You don't need a large yard, certain plants have a ridiculous crop yield. Couple your yield with some homegrown honey and some fruit from trees/shrubs and the calories add up pretty quick.
As Whusky said, you can do this on a rooftop in Seattle.

The magical microplastics are gonna teleport around the tiles, despite the reduced ware, decrease capillary contact points, etc.?
Come on. You're paralyzed by a meme.

And monks used to keep bees on the roof of cathedrals in Gothic cities, for exactly such a purpose, plus beeswax for candles.

Obviously a dark age larp

I started gardening in 2020 as a way to offset my grocery bills. First couple years were pretty hard and I really didn't even break even. I was buying all the dumb stuff you think you need when starting out.

These days I grow potatoes, carrots, radishes, various greens, strawberries, apricots, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and snap peas. A majority of my crop is grown in three raised beds and a series of 5 gallon buckets for potatoes.

The secret for me was using egg shells for seed starting and composting. I had so many cucumbers a couple years ago that I started pickling. A stall at the farmer's market sells my jars of pickle, snap pea, and radish mixes and in return I haven't had to buy eggs or mushrooms.

I'm only offsetting about 40% of my groceries this way right now but the garden grows yearly. Next year I'm thinking of starting a couple aquaponic beds using IBC containers so I can have tilapia. I'm experimenting with an aquarium and cultivating large amounts of duckweed. It's going well.

40% is positively commendable!

Got any pics?

If the thread's still around when I get off work in an hour I'll take some.

I have pics. One of the two footers with greens and herbs

Egg shells are goated. I do mainly coffee grounds, egg shells, and grass clippings. Would highly recommend for fruit as it boosts the acidity and creates a fantastic texture for the soil.
Pic with timestamp since I'm off work now.

430,000/(1000*0.0025*180*24)

Just what is this sorcery?!

I call bullshit but it's Anon Babble so large away
40% off a few beds lmao
T. Actual grew up rural and had a few acres to use for various vegetables and subsistence hunted.

It's just math. The units are above it in the post.

It's a misrepresentation of solar energy to calories through photosynthesis, using cooked statistical formulae. It's utter BS.

the 40% anon is using that fancy store-bought dirt, not the rocky soil of Tennessee

I don't think you understand what micro means.

Algebra is bs

Did you graduate high school?

I don't think you understand how plastics break down.

This

i'm only familiar with that prefix in relation to penises

You use averages. Statistics. THEN you use algebra, to stitch them together.
You conflate potential AVERAGE available energy with potential AVERAGE calorie yield.
You don't take into effect that plants don't just stay in the space they start with.

THEY GROW, dumbass. They overflow, and the root area is only a fraction of the whole collection space.

The sun's output is stable and the photosynthetic efficiency is a fact. I actually gave you 24 hours of sunlight instead of 12. You can be as mad about it as you want, but those are the numbers.

You don't take into effect that plants don't just stay in the space they start with.

Unless you're gardening in your neighbors yard that doesn't matter at all.

when we've removed that drooling wannabe dictator retard from office.

They don't.

Gardening has more than X and Y axes; Z is important.
Beans and peas, etc., grow VERTICALLY with no need for additional land footage. Gardeners use areas that are shadowed by lower plants for these, for a layered effect where each benefits from root overlap, but their collection space is many times higher than the square GROUND footage.
You are either arguing in extremely poor faith, or have never gardened seriously. Simple As.

You can't magically make more sunlight. No matter how you utilize the area you aren't going to grow 2000 calories a day in less than 500 sq ft. It's a physical limitation. An upper limit. I have studied physics, soil science, and agriculture. Track the weight of the produce you grow and add up the calories. We both know that you don't grow all of your own food, but you're in denial, so do the experiment. Figure out how many calories you get per square foot each year and then do the math on the area you would need to feed yourself.

Just keep voting for people who serve the same rich masters irregardless of who wins and nothing ever changes.
Tell me, when you will -you- stop doing that?
