With me, you can say dude all day long because that's what I grew up with but this bro shit pisses me off and it's not anyone's fault. I've got a CDL. It doesn't matter what I'm driving, even my own personal vehicle, getting a ticket is still a point against my license. Getting in to a wreck because you didn't use your turn signal when your changed lanes also puts points on my license. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration specifically mandates that all highway vehicles must have turn signals, they must be in working order, and you must use them. No exception. A cop that's looking to pull someone over will single you out every time, and they will escalate. Even if you're sober and driving a vehicle you just purchased 10 minutes ago they will find a reason to detain you. Every turn. Every lane change. Every time. No excuses.

I drive like 50 hours/week. I’m only indicating when and where necessary for the benefit of other road users and to prevent causing a collision.

It's really not. Once you get in to the habit, it doesn't require much effort. The first question the cops and insurance adjusters will ask is "did they use their turn signal?" when there's a collision. It's a pretty steep fine that can lead to other charges, and also weighs heavily on your at fault percentage which will lead to higher deductibles, and lowered repair cost coverage.

I assume American cops are pulling people for not using them even when there’s little to no traffic around, or no one close in the lane they want to move into.

I just wanted to elaborate on it. Knowing the financial repercussions usually helps people understand why it's best practice to use your turn signals. Especially now that lane tracking is becoming more common in cars. If you don't signal for a lane change, the system will think that you're drifting and do what it's designed to do and correct your course. You'll get resistance in your steering that can catch you off guard and make you jerk the wheel, causing an accident. I've seen that happen quite a few times.
