The audience put up with it the first season because it was a new show. So he kept riding that idea until the show's demise. He literally never planned to show an action sequence (remember when all the "action" happened behind doors with lights and sounds, or just cutaways?) until people started telling him he's a fucking retard. The legit thought the idea or implication of something happening was better than something actually happening.

Early s2 only really worked because it was a lot of mystery boxes waiting to be opened, and some things just didn't fit continuity wise. Nathan bumps into someone in the early episodes with a full hobo beard but later when he wakes back up in the same episode Peter gets his memories back it turns out Nathan has only been awake for weeks. Nobody grows that kind of beard that fast. Minor point but still a bit annoying.

lol yes, Sylar was all over the place after s1 and it was never written well when he was trying to be good because he still murdered all the previous characters

Sylar figured out how things worked by studying them, hence working as a clockmaker. It was just faster if he directly examined the brain hence all the murder. When he copied the shapeshifter he had no empathy towards the guy.

That was still the case in later seasons, the fight Nathan and Peter have vs Sylar in s3 or something has them all go flying in the sky off camera or something. It was definitely annoying how little the powers were showed off in what was a superpowers show, will agree with that. Future Peter vs Future Sylar in particular had that in s1.
