The quality of education does matter, only after having some basic aptitudes and intelligence.
I've been doing CAD, 3D, CNC, and engineering for over 30years, currently work as a CAD "consultant". Companies call me in to troubleshoot and train their CAD techs.
These last 3-5 years have been miserable. Kiddies with their new degrees, even BS or fresh Masters in engineering... just what the fucking hell? A masters in mechanical engineering should be able to read engineering drawings, dealt with several recently who can't understand tolerances or drafting symbols. Too many CAD techs are getting each command from the long cascading menus or typing the full command, shortcuts and hotkeys are 2nd week in a CAD course. Feet, inches, and cm are different units that you hit with basic arithmetic to change between, can't CNC a 6 inch part when the CNC table can't handle anything larger than 4 feet and the university grad can't tell the difference all the way to the finished g-code.
Spelling counts in technical documents and you also have to be able to read full text, wtf kids.
Deleting history in CAD can lead to painful results, had to separate and reconstruct 3 parts that got unioned and all the history and backups deleted to "be a clean worker".
And these kids are SLOW, as slow as the dropouts were from my time in courses... they just give certs and degrees out nowadays without having to pass tests.
