The study sounded familiar, so I went and checked the authors and methodology. I was not surprised to see Kurt “homosexuality is a pathology” Freund as one of the authors.

As for the methodology. There is a lot of sample bias. All their data is from Clarke Institute for Psychiatry in Toronto. The data is also based on self-reported questionnaires as well as only talking to people who were convicted and also were represented by a public defendant. That massively shirks the randomisation of the data, which goes back to sample bias. There are other details, but that’s the biggest one because it makes the study look very amateurish.

To the authors’ credit, though. They do admit that it’s an exploratory study and further information is needed. However, it’s a 1st year university publication at best with how poorly it was done, especially by 1992 standards.
