Social issues change, they are subject to outside influences from the nation and the states control. Pairing something that can, will be and is influenced from the outside, with nationalism, is a tool of globalism.
Protip: the debt is not abroad. The debt is organized by your elites to put you to work you lazy arse. It's mostly held by Americans, onto offshore accounts. Americans lend money to Americans to justify layoffs and squeezing the workforce. They won't rebel: they're tied by credit. And you blame abroaders. Lookatchu, you insecure little facist... You're manipulated to the bone and buy into it. USA are the wealthiest. If you're unemployed, or if your job is crap, it's organized on purpose. And stop blaming China of your problems: it's your elite that optimized the prices through Chinese workers. Not the other way around.
Here's the problem as I see it. Everyone looks at situations from their own level. So us grunts look at the government sending aid to some Asian or African country and saying that's wrong when we have people in the US starving. But go about 10 levels higher than us and you have people looking at those countries saying that throwing a few bucks (relatively speaking) will keep that country stable, keep resources like oil and minerals flowing and add to peace in the region. That eventually lets us grunts get into our internal combustion car, drive to the supermarket and buy something other than beef, wheat and soybeans that the US grows.
So I think being nationalistic is fine, but there are sometimes ways to do it that doesn't look "nationalistic".
