Trump was a lot more fire and fury during 2016 if you just watch him talking and Hillary is one stone cold bitch that has been having people whacked for years, so they really went at each other. There was the crazy hype of the outsider Trump going in there and just slinging shit like crazy and the libs got fired up over how mean and orange he was, and the possibility of the first woman president, similar to first negro president in Obummer.
In 2024, first part was Joe and he was dead and low energy because senile, and Kamala is just shitty and uninspiring. Her appeal was so astroturfed and only the insane activist libs got fired up about her, and even then it was kinda hollow and it fizzled out after the short burst of "wow are candidate isn't the dead guy anymore". Hillary was competent and could take some hard questions and hit back like a long term Machiavellian politician. But Kamala has zero charisma and had to hide because she put her foot in mouth or cackled 90% of the time she came out. Also she was kind of fucked by having to defend Biden and her shitty record in the administration with him - Biden probably threatened her that if she trashed him he would fuck her over. He apparently forced them to pick her because he was pissed that the Dems stabbed him in the back - she was always shit and a DEI hire with no people skills.
Trump also has mellowed a bunch since 2016. He learned that swinging at everyone and yelling and insulting made him unappealing to a ton of people so he toned it down (only took him until his late 70s to learn that lmao), and he was going for the moderate votes to shore his base supporter numbers up.
So neither candidates were bringing the pain like they were in 2016. Still was way better than 2020 though.

On the subject of rigging. When it comes to burning ballots, stuffing boxes, that kind of fraud, you can only do so much. If it isn't even close and then the unpopular one suddenly wins people will smell a rat and people will notice the stuff as it is being done, but if it is really close, a few hundred thousand here and there can be plausibly slipped in.
2024 was a blowout for Trump. If they had tried to ballot printer go brrrrr in all the swing states hard all at once while the Trump campaign had 500 lawyers in each state and was watching everything, slamming lawsuits around it would have been found out, so they couldn't do it.

I think it partly had to do with there only being one debate between the two candidates. In 2016 there was a definitive 3 debates and both Hillary and Trump agreed to them. Plus there was a live audience for all 3 debates with a format that allowed Trump and Hillary to not just stand at a podium but move around and talk to voters. Trump got mocked by Democrats for towering over Hillary and being creepy. There was a lot of spectacle on the news about Trump's "Grab em by the pussy" statement to Billy Bush and so much enamored news coverage about Trump being a business man and being new to politics. No one ever believed in him and laughed at his run for President in the beginning so when he won in 2016 it stunned the world and the nation.
